As expected by the population of Bunagana, the President of the M23 Bertrand Bisimwa took time to address them and update them about the progress of the peace negotiations in Kampala. President Bertrand Bisimwa thanked the huge crowd of people who turned up to listen to him speaking, he expressed his appreciation for their support. He explained to the population that the M23 wants peace to prevail and not war. He said the Movement did everything possible to achieve peace in DR Congo through dialogue but once again it was likely that there would be more victims of war as a result of the circumstances being created and imposed by Kabila, the UN and SANDF.
President Bisimwa stressed that the March 23 Movement (M23) has always been ready to negotiate with the Congolese government, not for the purpose of being awarded positions in government, but rather to solve the problems of the Congolese people. However, he said that while the corrupt government of Joseph Kabila was engaging M23 in talks in Kampala, at the same time the same government was preparing for a military assault on the Movement. This devious conduct of the DRC government and its supporters has culminated into the UN ‘’intervention’’ brigade which is supposed to arrive in Kivu to wage war against the very people who are up in arms against bad governance in DRC.
The President assured the population who had come to listen to him that his movement will not allow the so called ‘’intervention’’ brigade to arrive in Kivu and unleash war on the inhabitants. He promised that M23 would fight with all its strength to ensure that the Congolese people claim their legitimate rights. He also stressed that it was both shocking and shameful that the ANC freedom fighters of yesterday have joined hands with the corrupt government of Kabila and foreign interests to wage war against Congolese freedom fighters of today.
